This workshop focuses on the 6th principle of Kwanzaa, Kuumba. Creative innovations as well as cultural traditions in birth work are discussed with a special emphasis on how these practices improve and enhance positive birth experiences among Black mothers. The Doula Roundtable will share examples of their work, ideas and aspirations. Workshop activities focus on how talents, creativity, expertise can be shared collectively to improve community health status. Creative restoration of the birth-right as Black birth workers will be reinstated with an official ceremony and rites of passage. This workshop ill culminate with the Black doulas making a commitment to put their creativity and talents to work by creating a resource guide.
