Healing waters

Over the last decade, the African American Breastfeeding Network Inc. (AABN) has celebrated the beauty of birth and breastfeeding with over 1,000 families. Unfortunately, we have also heard the many voices of despair from families who have experienced loss.

AABN is committed to ending suffering in silence due to pregnancy and infant loss. Healing Waters supports families who have experienced infant loss of a pregnancy at any stage, or death of a baby, up to 12 months of age. The pain families experience is insurmountable, traumatizing, and unbearable. Our trained Perinatal Loss Counselor provides one-on-one support to help mothers and their loved ones begin and/or continue their healing journey. To request a phone call, please complete the registration below.

Group support is not offered at this time; we plan to resume in October.

Healing Waters Perinatal Loss Counselor
End-of-Life Doula

Registered nurse by profession, Shantell started Dignity With Departure, to reduce the stigma surrounding end-of-life (or the challenging term death). She provides individualized counseling to women and families to help them cope with their grief from pregnancy or infant loss. After the loss of her oldest son, Jevontese Riley Sr., she discovered yoga to be personally beneficial and created Yoga for Grief, a class allowing people to connect with their physical and emotional expressions of grief.
